About Guinea
Guinea is bordered to the North by Guinea-Bissau, Senegal, and Mali, and to the South with Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Côte d'Ivoire. Guinea has a total population of just over 10 million inhabitants (2009).
Guinea is a West African coastal country which extends over 245,857 km2; four natural regions can be identified:
- Maritime Guinea (Lowland Guinea) a region of coastal lowlands and plateaus, where temperatures vary from 18C to 37C
- Mid Guinea ( Fouta Djalon) a mountainous region where the temperature varies from 10C to 33C
- Upper Guinea: a region of tropical bush lands where the temperature varies from 13C to 38C
- Forested Guinea: a region of dense forests where the temperature varies from 13C to 33C
The climate in Guinea is tropical, characterised by the alternation of a dry season from November to April and a rainy season the rest of the year, with variable intensity and duration from one natural region to another. Guinea has an important hydropower potential, evaluated at 6GW for a guaranteed annual production of 19,000 GWh.

The official language of Guinea is French, other languages spoken included Maninka (Malinke), Susu, Pular, Kissi, Kpelle, and Loma.
